Big Old Trees on the Plateau
Wahiawa sits on the plateau between the Waianae and Koolau ranges, wrapped on three sides by Lake Wilson, the Wahiawa Reservoir. It is an older town with older trees, and a lot of the Tree Service we do in Wahiawa involves big shade trees and fruit trees that have been growing over homes and streets for a very long time.
Lala hit Wahiawa
During Tropical Storm Lala in August 2026, Hawaii News Now reported a tree falling onto a car heading into Wahiawa. The driver was not hurt, but the vehicle was heavily damaged. Across Oahu, the city responded to more than 147 downed trees in the first day. Storms like that are rare, but they find the weak trees. The trees most likely to fail are the ones with decay at the base, cracks at major limb joints, heavy limbs extended far over a road or roof, or soil that has been saturated for days.
Lake-edge lots
Lake Wilson covers about 302 acres and is Hawaii's second-largest reservoir. Homes near its edge often have steep banks and wet soil at the back of the lot, and the trees there tend to be tall, leaning toward the light over the water. Taking down a tree on a bank like that means controlling every piece so it does not land in the lake or slide down the slope. We use ropes and lowering devices to bring wood down in a controlled way.
Renters and owners
Census QuickFacts shows the Wahiawa CDP with a 53.5% owner-occupancy rate, lower than most of Central Oahu, and the town sits next to Schofield Barracks, which alone is larger than the CDP. If you rent, the tree is almost always the owner's responsibility, and we need their approval to work on it. If you own a rental, we can coordinate directly with you and the tenant on scheduling.
Green waste close by
Wahiawa residents have a green waste option close to home. Hawaiian Earth Recycling on Wilikina Drive is among the sites that took residential green waste after Lala, according to the city's notice in the Star-Advertiser. Most of our customers would rather not haul it themselves, though, and our written estimates include chipping and removal of the wood unless you want to keep it.

Wahiawa Questions
The big tree in my yard survived Lala. Is it safe now?
Not necessarily. Storms often crack limbs or loosen roots without bringing the tree down. Look for new splits, hanging branches, a fresh lean or heaved soil at the base. We can inspect it and tell you what we find.
Can you remove a tree on the bank behind my house near the lake?
Yes. Bank trees are taken down in controlled sections so nothing slides into the water or onto the slope below. It takes more time and rigging, and the estimate will reflect that.
I am a landlord with a rental in Wahiawa. Can you work with my tenant?
Yes. We can send you the estimate, schedule with your tenant and confirm when the work is done.
Can a tree that overhangs the road in front of my Wahiawa house be trimmed?
If it stands on your property, yes, and keeping limbs clear of the roadway is part of being a good neighbor. If the tree is in the public right-of-way, it belongs to the city and should be reported to the city instead.
