About Honolulu Tree Service Pros

Honolulu Tree Service Pros trims, removes and cleans up trees and palms for homeowners in Honolulu, from Kalihi and Moanalua through Makiki, Mānoa and Kaimukī to Kāhala and the ridges of East Honolulu.

Every job begins with a visit to the property. We look at the tree first: species, lean, dead wood, cracks, co-dominant trunks, decay at the base and, on coconut palms, the state of the crown and any sign of coconut rhinoceros beetle damage. Then we look at what surrounds it. In Honolulu that usually means a roofline a few feet from the canopy, a neighbor's wall or carport, a service drop from the pole to the house, and a steep or narrow path for carrying out brush. Valley and ridge lots in Pālolo, Mānoa or Maunalani Heights often decide how a tree has to come down more than its height does.

We also sort out whose tree it is and what rules apply. Trees in the planting strip between the curb and your property line are street trees, and the city's street tree rules make it unlawful to prune or remove them without a permit from the Department of Parks and Recreation. Trees on the city's Register of Exceptional Trees need an approved permit before any crown or root pruning. If either may apply, we tell you before we quote and point you to the Division of Urban Forestry. Branches touching power lines are a matter for Hawaiian Electric, which can de-energize and lower a home's service line on request.

After the visit you get a written quote listing each tree or palm, the work planned for it, what happens to the fronds, logs and chips, whether stump grinding is included, and the price. Nothing is cut until you approve it, and any change in scope is agreed with you in writing first.

How we work

  • Each tree gets its own line on the quote, with the work, the cleanup and the price.
  • Limbs over roofs, lanais and walls are lowered on ropes instead of dropped.
  • Pruning follows the ANSI A300 standard: no topping and no stripping a tree down to a tuft at the ends.
  • Green waste is hauled covered, in line with the state's coconut rhinoceros beetle rules for Oʻahu.
  • Storm calls are taken in order of danger: trees on roofs and blocked exits come first.
  • You pay only for work you approved in writing.
