A Town Where People Stay
Kaneohe homeowners tend to stay put, and so do their trees. Census QuickFacts says 90.8% of residents lived in the same house a year earlier and about a quarter of the population is 65 or older. Much of the Tree Service we do in Kaneohe is for people who planted that avocado or shower tree themselves and now want it shaped, lightened or taken down by someone else, without the ladder work.
Wet uplands, drier bayfront. The weather station at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, on the peninsula across the bay, averages about 27.82 inches a year, which is drier than many people expect. Neighborhoods closer to the Koolau get a good deal more, and the town was historically farmed for taro because of that rainfall. In practice, a yard near Hoomaluhia or up a valley road will regrow faster and hold more moisture at the roots than one near the water, and we price and schedule with that in mind.
Lala closed the roads here. During Tropical Storm Lala in August 2026, Kahekili Highway was shut in both directions between Haiku Road and Hui Iwa Street because of a mudslide and downed trees. Saturated slopes and wind together are what bring trees down on the windward side. If you live on a hillside lot, the trees above your house matter as much as the ones in front of it. We look at slope, soil cracks, exposed roots and the lean of the trunk, not just the crown.
Common Kaneohe jobs
- Crown reduction on mango, avocado and monkeypod trees that have outgrown the yard
- Removing albizia and other fast, weak-wooded trees from the edge of a property before they fail
- Clearing limbs away from the service drop to the house, with Hawaiian Electric handling anything on the main lines
- Banana and palm cleanup, since banana is still the only commercial crop of note in Kaneohe
- Stump grinding after removals so the ground can be replanted or paved
Living near the cliffs. Many Kaneohe streets run up toward the Koolau, and the green you see behind the last row of houses often includes albizia and other fast, weedy trees that were never planted on purpose. They grow tall quickly, and the wood of many of them is weak. When one of them leans toward a home, the fix is usually removal in sections, with the rest of the edge thinned so the next one does not fall into the gap. We will tell you which trees are worth keeping and which are not.
Before the work starts. We confirm whether a tree sits on your lot, a neighbor's or the city's, and whether it is on the county's exceptional tree register, which requires a permit before crown or root pruning. We agree on what happens with the wood and brush before anything is cut. Call (808) 746-9674 to set up a visit. call (808) 746-9674

Kaneohe Questions
There is a big albizia on the slope above my house. Should it come down?
Often, yes. Albizia grows very fast and has brittle wood, and Hawaiian Electric has blamed overgrown albizia for outages along the base of the Koolau. We look at where it would fall and how the slope is holding before recommending removal or reduction.
Can you work on a steep backyard with no truck access?
Many Kaneohe lots are like that. Wood can be lowered on ropes and carried or winched out in pieces. It takes longer, and the estimate will say so.
Do you grind stumps on sloped lots?
Usually. Smaller grinders can reach most backyards through a standard gate. On very steep ground we may cut the stump flush instead and tell you why.
Who handles branches touching the line to my house?
The service line is the homeowner's responsibility under Hawaiian Electric's rules, but work within ten feet of an energized line should not be done by a homeowner. Call HECO's vegetation line at (808) 543-7836 if the line itself needs to be de-energized first.
